The Ann Arbor Art Fair 2024

July 18-July 20 | 10 AM – 9 PM (8 PM on Saturday)

Organizers expect upwards of 500,000 visitors over the course of this renowned three-day event. As the largest juried art fair in the nation, visitors from across the state and country will have the opportunity to experience nearly 1,000 artists across downtown city blocks in Ann Arbor.

There are three separate fairs that operate concurrently during the Ann Arbor Art Fair, the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, The Original, The Guild’s Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair, and the Ann Arbor State Street District Art Fair. Each is independently juried. There are also a couple of kick-off events on July 16th — Paint the Town and Dart for Art.

Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, The Original

The longest running of The Ann Arbor Art Fairs, The Original, is celebrating 65 years in 2024. Named the 2nd best Art Fair in the country by USA Today! This year’s featured artist is Kent Ambler, a printmaker, painter, and “builder of things.” Attendees will see Ambler’s work on the ’24 Ann Arbor Street Art Fair commemorative poster. The artist’s directory includes names such as David Alvarado of Los Angeles, Kate Beck of New Orleans, Dwo Wen Chen of Providence, and Maxwell Davis from right here in Ann Arbor.

The Guild’s Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair

Main Street, East Liberty, State Street, and South University, Ann Arbor

Celebrating 54 years in 2024, The Summer Art Fair is the largest of the three official partner fairs that participate in the award-winning Ann Arbor Art Fair. Families can enjoy art activities, live music, and more on the Stage on Main and at the corner of Main and William in the Palio lot. Whether you’re a lifelong art enthusiast or you’re an amateur admirer, you’re sure to find something that strikes your curiosity and inspires you at the Summer Art Fair.

Ann Arbor State Street District Art Fair

State Street, East Liberty, North University, Maynard, East William and Thompson, Ann Arbor

The State Street Area Art Fair was established in 1967 and is owned and operated by the State Street District. The State Street District Fair distinguishes itself through its showcasing of a diverse and varied mix of the finest art and handcrafted work by talented artists. The emerging artists section helps to develop burgeoning artists and discover new talent.

Paint The Town

Liberty, State & Main Streets, Ann Arbor
July 16 | 5 PM to 9 PM

Paint the Town is a great way to prepare for the big event! Attendees to this block party will enjoy live music and activities in the streets of downtown Ann Arbor, with live demonstrations by David Zinn Chalk Art at 5 PM and 7 PM. There will be delicious food, plenty of drinks, and an abundance of fun on Liberty, State, and Main Streets. 

Dart for Art

North University & State Street, Ann Arbor
July 16 | 5 PM – 8 PM

Another event that’s hosted as a prelude to the Ann Arbor Art Fair is Dart for Art. This all-inclusive one-mile run/walk will take participants through downtown Ann Arbor, with additional activities such as a meet and greet with Conrad the Unicorn, pop-up putt-putt golf, the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra instrument zoo, and interactive art stations for all ages.

The Sunday Artisan Market

The Sunday Artisan Market is an independent cooperative of artists, artisans, and craftspeople and has been hosted for 33 seasons now in Ann Arbor. Parking is free and there’s no cost for admission — so head on over and see what treasures are waiting to be discovered! The market is located in the Ann Arbor Farmers Market Pavilion, positioned conveniently in the heart of the historic Kerrytown district. The fun part about The Sunday Artisan Market is that it’s never the same twice! This unique gathering sees familiar faces, as well as new ones all the time. Shop for handmade pottery, artisan soap, unique jewelry, and even a handcrafted wooden bench for your garden!

Ann Arbor Farmers Market

Nothing says supporting local like a trip to the farmers market! At the Ann Arbor location, visitors and locals alike will find an array of fresh produce, locally produced goods, and even artisanal wares. The vendor list is varied, so it’s best to arrive with an open mind and see what speaks to you. You never know what you’ll discover, such as handmade jewelry, organic skin care products, hand-poured soy candles, and an endless supply of tasty treats waiting to be enjoyed! With over 125 vendors — there are plenty of booths to peruse and friendly people to meet. The Ann Arbor Art Center

The Ann Arbor Art Center has been dedicated to serving as a forum through which the local community can explore, collaborate, and exhibit artwork and expand perspectives since the early 1900s. The center engages tens of thousands of visitors annually and has enriched a multitude of lives during its storied history. The online store is a great place to shop by artist or by medium and find a unique gift or piece of decor for your home. Westside Art Hop

The Westside Art Hop is self-proclaimed as being Ann Arbor’s “quirkiest art fair” and it takes place in the city’s historic Westside neighborhood. Most artists are local and can range from relative newcomers to the scene as well as professionals. If you enjoy shopping for art and unique crafts and you want to chat with the artist who made them — come on out to the art hop. With over 70 artists set to attend, this event is one you won’t want to miss.

Art in the Park 

650 Church Street, Plymouth 
July 12-14 | 11 AM – 8 PM, 10 AM – 7 PM & 10 AM – 5 PM

As the 2nd largest art fair in the state, the day trip to Plymouth is well worth it. The event is now in its 44th year and is excited to welcome over 400 artists from across the country. Mediums featured at the festival include sculpture, paintings, jewelry, fiber, woodwork, photography and more. Additional events and activities include live music by Roots Vibration, chalk murals, and an interactive family-friendly theater experience at Kellogg Park. 

7th Annual Rosie the Riveter Arts & Craft Show 

1151 South Huron Street, Ypsilanti 
July 13 | 10 AM – 4 PM

At this annual craft show, attendees will have the opportunity to meet the original Rosie’s and service veterans, as well as visit over 90 craft booths set up by local artists. There will be a live DJ spinning tunes throughout the show and there will be food trucks on site to purchase yummy treats from. Every half hour, there will be a free raffle drawing. Winners must be present to collect.

Chelsea Sounds & Sights Festival: Art Market 

Downtown Chelsea, Chelsea 
July 26-27 | 12 PM – 8 PM & 10 AM – 6 PM

This annual summer weekend event is hosted in Michigan’s historic Chelsea and draws in visitors from across the state and beyond. This year’s festival will feature a classic car show, chalk art exhibitions, a food court, a TeenZone and a KidZone, as well as sidewalk sales and the popular art market! The chalk art exhibition and contest will host professional artists and give away $1000 in prizes. Young artists can check out the “How to Chalk” series hosted on various dates from early June through the end of July. 

11th Annual Fenton Art Walk

150 South Leroy Street, Fenton
July 27 | 10 AM – 7 PM

Located less than an hour away from Ann Arbor, Fenton makes for a nice day trip to get out of the city and explore new surroundings. The 11th Annual Fenton Art Walk is scheduled for Saturday, July 27th from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Fenton Community & Cultural Center. The community will gather to enjoy the showcase of local and regional artists and talent, including visual artwork, music, and technology-integrated art. This is a family-friendly event and there will be children’s activities set up for the littlest creative minds in attendance. Visitors can enjoy food trucks and the beverage tent, as well as live performances by Pat Parker, the Fenton Community Orchestra, Whiskey Business, and tribute bands.

Belle Isle Art Fair

99 Pleasure Drive, Belle Isle
August 3-4 |10 AM – 7 PM & 11 AM – 5 PM

Make the afternoon drive to Belle Isle Park this August for the Belle Isle Art Fair, which features 100 professional artists from over a dozen states, as well as emerging teen artists from the Mint Artists Guild. The event features a Heritage Tent, where iconic artists who no longer participate in shows due to age or health can still be appreciated and respected, and storytelling and art activities for the little ones. The fair is free to attend and parking is free as well. To enter the state park, Michigan residents can use the Recreation Passport or a day pass sticker can be purchased. The art fair features juried artists, as well as live music and a beer tent for all your refreshment needs.

Dexter Summer Festival

8300 Main Street, Dexter 
August 9-10 | 10 AM – 8 PM

Since 1975, this summer festival (formally known as Discover Dexter Days and Dexter Daze) has been hosted by several community organizations. This year, the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing and hosting the festival which features your favorite traditions, including talented artists, a variety of craftspeople, vendors and daily entertainment at the gazebo in Monument Park. New for 2024 will be merchant sidewalk sales, free shuttles, and a volunteer thank you party on Thursday evening. 

Brighton Street Art Fair

Main Street, Brighton
August 23-25 | 5 PM – 8 PM, 10 AM – 8 PM & 10 AM – 4 PM

Downtown Brighton is excited to host the Brighton Street Art Fair this August, from the 23rd to the 25th. Hours fluctuate daily, so check out the schedule ahead of time! Approximately 100 jury-selected artists will be featured during the fair and attendees can enjoy live music and art activities, all within walking distance of parking and great local restaurants and shops in the downtown area.

Soaring Eagle Arts, Beats, & Eats

301 West 4th Street Ste 440, Royal Oak 
August 30-September 2 | 11 AM – 11 PM (9 PM on Monday)

Mark your calendar for Labor Day weekend, as this is an event you won’t want to miss. With over 200 musical acts set to participate, attendees will enjoy a long weekend of live music and tasty bites. There will also be a juried fine art show at the south-end of the festival. This art show has been ranked in the top 50 shows by Sunshine Artist Magazine and consistently features some of the top artists from across the country. 

A Spotlight on Local Artists & Makers in Ann Arbor

With the Ann Arbor Art Fair fast approaching and the summer season seeing a variety of creative spaces popping up in the area, here are some local artists to keep an eye out for!

Alex Pratt

Find Alex Pratt at the Ann Arbor Art Fair in booth WA801. He has attended in previous years (2009, 2010) but has taken an extended hiatus from the event. Welcome him back and admire wheel-thrown porcelain pots, with hand-carved decorations. Each pot is functional and food-safe and is unique in its own right.

Anusree Sattaluri

Anusree Sattaluri showcased a collection of prints and ceramics at the Ann Arbor Art Fair last year and is making a return to booth NU829 in 2024. Her work is inspired by peace that can oftentimes be discovered in stillness and solitude, as well as in simple everyday pleasures. Anusree is a self-taught artist with a background in architecture and design.

Kristal Serna

Kristal Serna is returning to the Ann Arbor Art Fair this year in booth WA930. Her paintings are vividly intricate while showcasing a sense of simplicity upon closer inspection. This invites viewers to remember that even the most complex of issues can be approached systematically to make them more manageable.

Monica Rockhoff Wilson

You can find Monica Rockhoff Wilson at the Ann Arbor Art Fair in booth IN226. Monica is a ceramic artist, who also has a background in photography and performative mixed-media installation. She has a home studio in Ann Arbor and works at the Potters Guild.

Sajeev Vadakoottu

Sajeev Vadakoottu’s medium of choice is printmaking paper and he will be attending upcoming fairs, including the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair in booth WA810, as well as the A2 Artoberfest and the Birmingham Street Art Fair. Handmade jewelry is for sale on his website, featuring intricate designs and bold colors.
